God's Transforming Love - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image
The love of God is not simply an abstract idea, a distant concept, or a fleeting emotion—it is the most profound force that transforms, heals, and makes whole. The entirety of salvation history, from the creation of humanity to the redemptive sacrifice of Christ, points to this love, which seeks to restore the fallen, renew the broken, and draw all creation into divine life. In this reflection, we will explore the nature of God's transforming love, grounding it in Scripture, Catechesis, and Church teaching, while reflecting on its impact on the human heart. The Divine Initiative: God’s Love in Creation From the beginning, God's love is the source of all creation. The Book of Genesis recounts how God spoke the universe into existence, creating the world out of love and calling it good (cf. Genesis 1:31). Humanity, created in the image and likeness of God (cf. Genesis 1:27), is the pinnacle of this divine act. It is here that we first glimpse the profound dignity and value that G

The Triumph of Love: Reflecting on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image
Every year on September 14, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a solemn reminder of the profound mystery of our salvation. On this day, we are invited not only to honor the instrument of Christ’s victory but also to reflect on its deep meaning in our daily lives. The cross is often seen as a symbol of suffering and defeat, yet in Christianity, it becomes the sign of ultimate triumph and love. The Gospel of John tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). The cross is not just an emblem of Christ's sacrifice; it is the means by which salvation was made available to all of humanity. The Cross: The Throne of God’s Love In the eyes of the world, the cross was an object of shame and humiliation. Jesus, the Messiah, was crucified—a form of execution reserved for criminals. But what the world saw as defeat was, in fact, God's great act of redemptio

Nurturing the Faith: The Vital Role of Catechesis - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image
Catechesis, the process of teaching and deepening one's faith, is central to the mission of the Church. More than just imparting knowledge, it forms disciples who live and share the Gospel. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) defines it, catechesis is "an education in the faith... imparted in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of Christian life" (CCC 5). The Role of Catechesis Rooted in Jesus’ command to "make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19-20), catechesis draws its authority from Christ. Its aim, as stated in Catechesi Tradendae, is to foster an "intimacy with Jesus Christ" (CT 5). Catechesis is about more than doctrine—it’s about leading believers into a personal relationship with Christ. The catechist plays a critical role as a witness to the faith. The General Directory for Catechesis teaches that catechists "live their faith in such a way that they can communicate it t

Fulfillment in Faith: The Journey to Know and Love God - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image
Introduction In the heart of Catholic teaching lies a profound truth: the purpose of human life is to know and love God. This foundational principle is not merely a theological abstraction but a call to a personal, transformative relationship with the Divine. Through understanding the Catechism of the Catholic Church and relevant Vatican documents, we explore how this purpose shapes our existence and directs our journey toward ultimate fulfillment. The Nature of Man’s Existence The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) begins with a fundamental assertion about human nature: "God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life" (CCC 1). This divine initiative underscores that human life has a purpose rooted in God’s love. Man is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26), endowed with reason and free will, capable of seeking truth and goodness. As Pope Benedict XVI articulates, "The de

Theotokos: Ina ng Diyos, Ina ng Kaligtasan - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Love and Forgiveness

Pastoral Lay Leadership: Embracing Our Role in the Mission of the Church -by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image
In the modern Church, pastoral lay leadership stands as one of the most crucial and transformative aspects of ministry. As lay leaders, we are called not just to be passive members of the Church but active participants in the mission of Christ, a mission entrusted to all the baptized. This sacred responsibility invites us to follow Christ, serve the Church, and spread the Gospel with conviction, courage, and humility. The Call to Leadership Pastoral lay leadership is rooted in our baptismal calling. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commands His followers to “go and make disciples of all nations.” This Great Commission is not restricted to priests and religious, but extends to all baptized Christians. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 900) affirms, “The lay faithful are entrusted by God with the apostolate by virtue of their Baptism and Confirmation, so that they are capable of working for the renewal and building up of the Church.” As lay leaders, our participation in the mission of the

Baptism in the Holy Spirit: Rekindling the Flame of Faith - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image
Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a transformative experience in the life of every believer. Though distinct from the sacrament of baptism, it signifies the deepening and renewal of the grace we received through our baptism and confirmation. This phenomenon is often misunderstood but is grounded in both Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Catholic Church. In this article, we will explore the nature of Baptism in the Holy Spirit and how it calls us to a deeper relationship with God, a life empowered by the Holy Spirit, and a witness to the world. 1. Biblical Foundations of Baptism in the Holy Spirit Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a scriptural reality. In the New Testament, we see many instances of the apostles and early Christians being “filled” with the Holy Spirit after receiving baptism. The first and most prominent example is the event of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), where the apostles, already baptized by Jesus in water, received the power of the Holy Spirit and were empowered to pro

Understanding Practical Liturgy: Connecting Faith and Everyday Life - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image
Introduction Liturgy, in its broadest sense, is the official public worship of the Church. It is through the liturgy that the faithful participate in the mystery of Christ, especially in the sacraments. However, there's an aspect of liturgy that often goes unnoticed but is crucial for a vibrant Christian life: practical liturgy. This concept goes beyond the formal structure of worship and connects the liturgical celebrations with our daily lives. Practical liturgy emphasizes how we live out the grace we receive in the sacraments and apply the teachings of the Church in our everyday actions. What is Practical Liturgy? Practical liturgy refers to the lived experience of the liturgy outside the church walls. It is how the celebration of the Eucharist, the sacraments, and the liturgical seasons influence our daily decisions, relationships, and actions. It's about making the liturgy a lived reality, where the sacredness of worship flows into every aspect of our lives. This concept i

Be Vigilant and Prepared - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

"And so you must be vigilant, because you do not know the day or the hour." - Matthew 25:13 In the Gospel of Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus tells the parable of the ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom. Five of them were wise, and five were unprepared. The wise ones brought enough oil for their lamps, while the others ran out. When the bridegroom arrived at an unexpected hour, those without oil were left scrambling, and it was too late for them to enter the wedding feast. The lesson of this parable is clear: we do not know the exact time of the Lord's coming, so we must always be ready. But instead of worrying or being anxious, this readiness should bring us peace and joy. Being ready does not mean we are always anxious or fearful, but that we are happy and content in our relationship with God, knowing that whatever happens, He is with us. The "watchfulness" that Jesus speaks of is a reminder to keep our lamps burning—not to wear us out, but to show the light of our f

"Taking a Stand for the Truth" - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist Gospel: Mark 6:17-29 In the Gospel of Mark, we witness the story of the death of St. John the Baptist at the hands of King Herod. This narrative presents a profound conflict—a struggle between truth and falsehood, between good and evil. John the Baptist is a portrait of courage and steadfastness in the face of lies and wickedness. He was unafraid to speak out against the wrongdoings of Herod and Herodias, even at the cost of his life. The first lesson we can draw from this story is the importance of standing firm in the truth. It is easy to turn a blind eye and remain silent when the truth is being suppressed, but a true follower of Christ is called to stand up against evil. John the Baptist stood firm even though he knew it might cost him his life. Our commitment to the truth should be the same in our own time. In the face of challenges—corruption, lies, false teachings, and immoral living—we are called to be the light and salt of the world. Secondly,

Protestant Objections to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Image
Many Protestant sects strongly oppose the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. One of the primary reasons for their objection is the supposed lack of direct biblical evidence stating that Mary was conceived without the stain of original sin. Their main arguments often rely on the following scripture passages: 1. Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." According to them, this verse declares that no one is exempt—everyone, including Mary, has sinned and is in need of salvation. 2. Luke 1:47 - "And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior." Protestants use this statement by Mary to argue that she herself acknowledged her need for salvation, implying that she could not have been conceived without sin. Catholic Defense of the Doctrine of the Immaculate Conception These arguments, while seemingly reasonable at first glance, are based on a misunderstanding and a limited reading of the whole of Scripture and Traditio

Pagtatanggol sa Iglesia Katolika: Ang Walang Hanggang Pamamayani ng Tunay na Simbahang Itinatag ni Kristo - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Memorial of the Queenship of Mary - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image

Proto-Evangelium: Ang Unang Pahayag ng Mabuting Balita - by Bro. Glenn dela Cruz

Image
